The Fat Pickle
Well ho-lee-shit it's been a long eight months since I've scored a new food truck. You can say I've been in a state of semi-retirement and this site has gotten a bit...well...stale.
I have my reasons. MerchMart being in a food truck desert, the primary one. My trusty sidekick moving to San Diego and me working with a bunch of people that don't want to chase their food coming a close second.
But let's not dwell: #FoodTruckFridays are back for the summer (shout out to @CHIFoodTruckHub for organizing this) right outside my building.
And mad props to Sarah of The Fat Pickle (and sister truck The Fat Shallot) for recalling that I work at the Mart and love to eat tasty food from mobile eateries. So when I saw this last week, you bet your sweet ass I replied "YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!"

If you don't know, The Fat Pickle is devoted to making the amazing deli sammiches that ran as occasional specials on The Fat Shallot. Remember that fleeting hotness that was the fried salami topped #eggoneverything style? It's a mainstay on this truck. And I almost ordered it, too. But I like to mix things up and try new things. Plus, I'm a sucker for good Reuben, so I went with that and an order of garlic & herb fries (on the house...thanks again Sarah!) because fries.
Proper. That's about the best way to describe it. The Swiss stands up nicely to the tang of the sauce and slaw. And that corned beef is just so damn delicious. And if you don't order fries from either of their trucks, you are doing it wrong. These are some of the best fries among the fleet of Chicago trucks. Period.
