Evil Weiner

So, remember the other day when it was too hot to hit multiple trucks? Yeah. That.

Been in Austin over a week now and, while still not really acclimated, at least I’ve come to terms with being in a state of constant sweat. Considering I’d only have a few days left in town, it was time to step up my game and go to work.

I had an amazing dinner with a group of Drupalfolk at Hightower Austin. A couple apps (smelt!!), some chimichurri hangar steak and a pork jowl bi bim bap. Granted, those two entrees were shared.

On the way back to the Airbnb to drop off our bags in anticipation of the night’s shenanigans, we happened upon that very same East Side Fillin’ Station. What I didn’t mention in the Chaat Shop write-up is that as we were finishing up our food, a truck named Evil Weiner was just rolling. So naturally, I was figuratively kicking myself for not being able to eat from that truck. Because that name is pretty epic.

So who do we see? Evil Weiner! Yes! Yes!! Yes!!!

Nope. Nope. Nope. Computer was down and they couldn’t sell until the boss was back. Crapsnacks!

That’s ok, because that-person-who-shall-not-be-named lost his/her sandals at the day’s meeting space and there was much rock, rubble and broken bits of glass so we had time to also go get shoes.

Bags dropped, shoes achieved, we headed back to the truck to score some grub. Well, maybe only me. Because I’m badass.

Since I’d likely only have one chance to eat an Evil Weiner, I asked for a recommendation. The two lovely people on board had a bit of a throwdown trying to sway me between a bacon wrapped dog called La Revolucion and a brisket laden dog called The Cowgirl. Now, I have a dirty mind, so I was leaning toward the latter, but up until this point in my mind, I had never consumed a bacon wrapped hot dog and decided this was the exact time to fix that.

That, plus a Mexican Coke, made for quite the tasty start of a night of food truckin’.

For those keeping score: Texas truck #4, Austin truck #2.
